Colorful fish, lobster, manta rays, giant groupers and seashells are all within arm's length while guests swim among the rock reefs under the supervision of a licensed divemaster.A three day diving workshop is available for novices wishing to master the necessary diving skills. Snorkeling expeditions are also available and all equipment is provided by the Hotel.
        The avid angler will delight in the experience of fishing for dorado, rooster fish, shark, marlin, tuna, and other highly prized game fish. For added thrills, guests may try hand lining, a local method of fishing without a rod and a reel. A local fishing guide will take guests to the choicest spots Costa Rica has to offer.

        The location of Sunset Reef at Cabo Blanco, on the Pacific Coast adjacent to the Absolute Natural Reserve of Cabo Blanco, offers visitors a unique opportunity to observe the abundance and diversity of Costa Rica's marine life. Under the tutelage of qualified resident scientists, guests may gain first hand knowledge and insight into this incredible, regional ecosystem. The Hotel offers special lectures, slide shows and discussion groups, in addition to a variety of unique guided expeditions.
        Guests may enjoy relaxing walks along the tropical beaches or invigorating mountain bike rides into the charming village of Mal País. Guided excursions on horseback are also available for short expeditions into the mountainous region of the surrounding forest.Howler monkeys, parrots and various exotic mammals are all part of the spectacular journey, which culminates with a picnic lunch near a dramatic 120 foot waterfall.
        Each of the 14 rooms at sunset Reef has been tastefully decorated with exotic hard- woods, hand crafted furniture and original art work. Daily maid service assures that the high service standards are maintained.
        Sunset Reef restaurant offers wonderful specialties of the local region, as well as international cuisine. All selections feature the freshest, locally caught fish and sea food, the choicest cuts of meat and exquisite desserts. Custom meals for special diets will be prepared upon request
There are three ways to do it:
        From San José take the Puntarenas bus, costing about 700.00 colons. This will take you about two hours. When in Puntarenas, take the Ferry Boat to “Paquera” at a cost per person of 405.00 colons. When you get to the other side take a taxi to Mal País which costs about 8000.00 colons.

        By car, from San José, take route #1 and get off at the Puntarenas exit. The Ferry Boat to Paquera is at the end of the tip that forms the city; you will find small signs. The ferry goes at 5:00 am, 8:45 am, 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm, 5:00 pm and at 8:15 pm. Be there at least 45 minutes before any departure hour. During the high season this gets very busy. On the other side you should drive to the town named Paquera, then Tambor, Cobano and finally to Mal País, the hotel is at the end of the road and you will find big signs along the road.

By plane, there are two companies that have scheduled flights to Tambor, SANSA and TRAVEL AIR, the flight takes about 25 minutes; from the airstrip of Tambor a taxi can be arranged to transfer you to Sunset Reef, the cost by SANSA is US$55 one way, $110 roundtrip, per person and by Travelair is $66 one way, $125 round trip. The cost of the taxi to the hotel is $30.00.
